Oxford Police:

I would like to thank you for visiting the Oxford Police Web Site. I will forego the typical Mission Statement and just tell you a little bit about your Police Department. Our primary goal is to provide a service to the people of which we can all be proud. We spend as much time talking about customer service as we do about crime solving. I have always felt that we in government service are not always going to be able to solve your problems, make you whole, or make you happy. The one thing we can do is always make sure you know that your problems are important to us, and that we will do anything we can under the law to help you. One way to bring that home is when you call our police department you always get a real person to speak to and not a computer. Hopefully this will always be the case well into the future.

Like any other municipality we have our share of crime. We deal everyday with Domestic Violence, Child Abuse, and Elder Abuse - the people that prey on our most vulnerable citizens.  We take these crimes very seriously.  But, there are many things we cannot do.  We are not Hollywood's version of Law Enforcement; most times the job will not be completed in 60 minutes.  But my promise to the citizens of Oxford and our visitors is that we will constantly work to be a little better tomorrow than we are today.

The Oxford Police Department has 20 sworn full time Civil Service Officers and 1 part time Civil Service Intermittent Officer.  We also employ 4 full time civilian Dispatchers, 6 part time Dispatchers, 2 Animal Control Officers, and a Records Clerk. The Officers work a 4 days on and 2 days off rotating schedule. This schedule allows all Officers the ability for a weekend off every 5th week.  We spend much of our time training Officers in the many and varied facets of law enforcement.  In general, each Officer must complete 40 hours yearly of in-service training which consists of CPR, First Responder, Law updates, and Firearms Qualification.  We also have Officers specifically trained in such areas as Child & Elder Safety, SWAT Training, Accident Reconstruction, Criminal Investigations, Drug Investigations, School Resource, and Cyber Crimes.  We shall constantly work to enhance our ability to bring the best service we can to the citizens of Oxford.

We are working hard to make sure that this site remains useful and up to date.  We need to know from you what works and what does not work. We also would like to know what you would like to see in our Web Site, so please let us know.  On behalf of the men and women of the Oxford Police Department thank you for visiting our site.
